Thorn Learning developed the online course, ‘TeachingEnglish: Safeguarding learners online’, by reviewing and reworking existing Teaching for Success modules, creating an up-to-date and globally relevant 9-hour training experience for an audience of English language teachers and teacher educators.
The final course, built in Articulate Rise and accessed from an eCom Scotland LMS, covers:
- Understanding safeguarding (3 x units)
- Digital citizen identity (3 x units)
- Digital privacy and security (3 x units)
The online learning content was supplemented by a digital workbook and resource pack, designed to extend, deepen and apply learning through links to further learning content and reflective/action-planning activities. Further pedegogical support and learner engagement is facilitated through a private social media-based learning community (currently 30k members), also coordinated by Thorn Learning.
The course features in the British Council’s 2023-24 open learning programme for teachers, a free series of courses for language teachers around the world. Learn more about the programme and upcoming courses.
