The Secondary English Teacher Development Programme (SETDP) is an online tutor-led training programme to help Japanese high school teachers of English develop their skills and confidence in teaching speaking and writing.

Since 2019, Thorn Learning has supported the programme through the delivery of a combination of online training events and webinars, tutorials, self-study courses. Learning is applied and showcased through the completion of a portfolio-led project. Participating teachers are supported in implementing and sustaining improved teaching practices, and in developing as reflective and collaborative practitioners.

In addition to directly working with 220 teachers over four years of the 6-month programme, Thorn Learning has provided additional management support for this collaboration between Cambridge University Press and the Ministry of Education in Japan (MEXT) by mentoring online tutors and coordinating online events.
